I need to bitch about work. More particularly, a certain woman who works in the same place that I do. I work in the library at the university I attend. Now, on Mondays I work until 4:00. We have time sheets that we fill out. Usually I fill in out first thing, including when I leave. Everybody does this.

So yesterday I left at her, because mine is broken. No big deal. My direct surpervisor wasn't here, and she isn't today either. So I leave at 3:00, and in the shitstorm of crap that's on my mind (school, I just moved, my car, mt dad, a variety of other things) I forget to change 4:00 to 3:00 on my time sheet. It happens. I am stressed the fuck out and it happens.

Apparently yesterday this woman, this woman who I can not stand, who is not my supervisor or even closely related to my job, who is constantly on my case about one thing or another, and who has tried to get me fired on one other occasion, decides to organize the timesheets early (they're supposed to be turned in Wednesday, and it's her job to do this). So she sees 4:00 on my sheet, and it's 3:30 and I'm nowhere to be seen. I didn't tell anybody I was leaving because my boss wasn't there, and my job doesn't really require for people to know that I'm here.

So she goes to the big boss. The person in charge of everything, and reports this. I can understand. I made a mistake. One I fixed first thing today. One I laid in bed thinking about last night. But to late. I got my ass chewed about, because apparently i do this alot, according to said woman. I lie on my timesheet all the time, although I wasn't aware I did. So now I can't work on Saturday, when no one is here to supervise me. And I have people watching me, in case I screw up.

Here's the cool thing, though. My boss hates this lady with a passion, same as me. So as soon as I talk to my boss, perhaps this can stop.

She's old and crippled and I hope she retires soon.

I'm just really fucking pissed off. Thought I would share.

Paolo needs to e-mail me his cell phone number.

NOW!

I finally got a phone this morning. I feel special. And connected.

Not having internet at home sucks. The day we get it can not come fast enough.

Friday, August 27, 2004

I love my new computer. More than my cat. Sure, my computer can't do cute stuff or sleep next to me curled in a little black ball, but my cat can't burn DVDs for me, now can it? If these damn dorms would hurry up and get internet access, all would be right with the world.

I've been busy burning off season two of Jeremiah, which I never got to see. I watched episode three this morning before work. It's so freakin' cool.

Not having a car sucks. Sure, I live on campus now, so I can just walk to work and school. But it's August. In west Texas. When I got to work today I looked like my car had gone through a car wash with a free wax job. My dad tells me to give him a few days to get something together, and he can bring something down to me from Ruidoso. Probably by next weekend. I hope it's than van, with its shag carpeting and couch/bed in the back. That would be so cool.

I have good friends. Last night I needed some soda and cigarettes, so Chris and Amanda took me down to Town and Country. None of my other friends would have done that for me (I'm sure they would have, but I've decided not to kill Chris and Amanda. Everyone else is still up in the air).

All my classes look like they aren't going to kick my ass this semester. Child/Adolescent Psychology will be easy enough, since I've had it before (I got a C, but I have to get at least a B to go on with getting my teacher's certification). It's with Dr. Thompson, who is harmless enough. And the class is big enough that I don't have to listen to stupid people inane ramblings about how much they love kids (most of the time, it still seems to come out, though). My American Literature class looks like it will be cool, once we get out of poetry. I am so not a poetry person. It's with Ms. Kolb, who I've had before and know how to get an A from. Comparative Revolutions will be cool because it's with Dr. Aguila, but there's alot of reading for it. And Theoretical Literature looks like it will be interesting. I've never had Dr. Richardson before, but he seems cool.

The only bad thing about school starting back up is that I don't get to see all of my friends. I see Chris and Amanda daily, and Greg up at work sometimes. And Daniel let me get the files he was saving on his hard drive. But I've only seen Travis in passing in his huge ass truck. And I haven't seen Misty all week. I will give her a hug tonight, as I gather that she needs it. Paolo went back to Dallas, where he continues to read only Runaways and Astonishing X-Men. Which, if you were only going to read two comics, those would be pretty good choices. And Blake's new car probably told him to go to New Jersey or something. Stupid GPS.

Fans of a certain Russian X-Men should go read Astonishing X-Men #4. Right now. This book, this is why I love Joss Whedon. This book is possibly the coolest, most awesome thing I've read in a long time. Other cool books of the week (that I've read anyways) include Amazing Spider-Man #511, Batman #631, We3 #1 (of 3), Ultimate Fantastic Four #10, and Powerless #3 (of 6).

I bought the first two seasons of Dallas on DVD yesterday. I'm not sure why, but it's really good. I also bought the last disc of Farscape. I doubt there has ever been a stranger combination of purchases.

For today's cool thing of the day, the full, 1980s style trailer for Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. It airs on October 17th. It's going to kick lots and lots of ass.

That's all for today. I should get to work.

Wednesday, August 25, 2004

My car broke down yesterday. I not quite sure what I'm going to do about that. I can call my dad and see if he has any old ones sitting around he could bring me. It'll get worked out.

Here's comics for this week: Amazing Fantasy #3, which I'm really enjoying; Amazing Spider-Man #511, from the wonderous J. Michael Straczynski; Astonishing X-Men #4, from the great Joss Whedon; Batman #631, the end of the first act of War Games; Catwoman #34, also part of War Games; Conan #7, for the Norse Viking metal guy in me; Excalibur #4, which is my last issue; The Flash #213, which sets up a story that ties into Identity Crisis; Green Lanter #180, the penultimate chapter to Homecoming and the series itself; Incredible Hulk #76, the last issue of the regular for a while; JLA #104, which I've been enjoying; Marvel Knights 4 #9, which is severly under-rated; Mystique #18, the last chapter to the current storyarc; Powerless #3 (of 6), a simply amazing mini-series; Richard Dragon #4, which I'm enjoying; Sleeper: Season Two #3 (of 12), which is always good; Superman #208, which is getting better; 30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow #6 (of 6), the end of the third mini-series; Ultimate Elektra #1 (of 5), from Mike Carey and Salvador Larroca; Ultimate Fantastic Four #10, from Warren Ellis; We3 #1 (of 3), more wierd-ass stuff from Grant Morrison; The Witching #3, a book that I'm trying to like, but can't seem to; and Wonder Woman #207, which is always good.

Seems like a good week. It'd be better if my car worked.

I got home last night and set up my computer. The monitor I got from my mom either can't show Windows XP or flat out doesn't work. She has another one, or I might just get the one she uses for her computer and replace it with this one, since she uses Windows 98.

I had to buy a keyboard and mouse for this computer, but they were only fourty dollars and it's really nice. I also got a set of blank DVDs I can't use until I get this damn thing to where I can actually see it. Hopefully tonight I'll be burning crap to my hearts content.

I found the comic in San Antonio. It's nothing real special. It's nothing I couldn't buy online (but I don't like buying back issues online. It takes the fun out searching for them). Granted, it's eight dollars online and I got it for three. It's The Flash, vol. 2 #165. It's not that old. It's the second issue of Geoff John's run on the title. But it's the one that has avoided me for a long time. Now I have all of his run on the title, from #164 foward. I also got a couple of issues of Black Panther (now I only need three or four issues to complete my run of that book) and Brian Michael Bendis's Total Sell Out, which is an excellent book to read on the toilet.

I hate driving. Or riding. It makes me nervous when other people drive. But I made it home.

Friday, August 20, 2004

So I've gotten everything moved in. All my books set up. My posters are hung up. I'm still waiting for a drill to put up my grandmother's shelf (which is actually the headboard to a really old bed) so I can put up my DVDs. I like everything. My room is slowly becoming mine.

I went home last night to do laundry and watch The O.C. with my mom. For some reason, that's how we bond, by watching television or movies or whatnot. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. She seemed to be doing good, but I've only been gone for three days.

Blake got a new car. It's smarter than we are. It tells you where to go in a nice female voice, and when you don't go that direction it gets made and tells you to turn around. I want to find out how to give it a drunken Irish voice. Or a Chinese guy who doesn't speak English voice. We're going to Midland again this afternoon to get some more comics and a box for my own. The more comics I get the even more my room will become my own.

In November, Marvel is released a book called New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch, spinning out of the Avengers Disassembled going on right now. It's a new team, consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Sentry, and Luke Cage. This should kick lots and lots of ass. I link the cover art at the end of this post.

Later in early 2005, Marvel is also doing a new book called Young Avengers from Allan Heinberg, a writer and executive producer on The O.C. and artist Jimmy Cheung. There's an interesting interview with him here. I have no idea what this book is about, other than the obvious, but it looks damn interesting.

Something to look foward to again.

Every year since I was sixteen my mother has bought comics for me the week of my birthday (and Christmas). So here's comics for this week, courtesy of my mom: Adventures of Superman #631, the best Superman book out there right now; Batgirl #55, part of the War Games crossover; Birds of Prey #72, which is always good; Daredevil #63, with Brian Michael Bendis goodness; Doctor Spectrum #1 (of 6), a Supreme Power spin-off; Ex Machina #3, my favorite new book; Exiles #51, which is always good; Fallen Angel #14, the most under-rated book out there right now; Fantastic Four #517, which ties into Avengers Disassembled; Gotham Knights #56, also part of War Games; Hawkman #31, which I decided not to drop, unless this issue happens to suck; Manhunter #1, from Marc Andreyko; Mary Jane #3, which I think is ending at the next issue; New X-Men #4, which I'm dropping at issue six, unless it gets really good (but I don't think it will; Robin #129, which I'm looking foward to; Rogue #2, which is surprisingly decent; Singularity 7 #2, which is awesome; Supreme Power #12, which is super awesome; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #17, which nobody else reads; Ultimate Spider-Man #64, more Bendis goodness; Wolverine #18, the penultimate issue of Greg Rucka's run; X-Men #160, which I wish was better; X-Men: The End - Book One #2 (of 6), which should look pretty.

I'm also getting bags and boards. And possibly a box. There's not room for my comics in my new rooms, so the collection itself is staying a home, but I need a few boxes for new stuff as it comes it.

I get my new computer this weekend.

Tuesday, August 17, 2004

I'm moving today.

That is all.

Monday, August 16, 2004

I don't drink. I wish my mother would realize this. I'm moving out tomorrow, possibly a little bit tonight, which is fun. I got all the stuff I need for my birthday, and I don't have to pay for my first round of groceries or comics for this week. This is better than crappy presents.

I got a bunch of newer comics in Lubbock that my local shop hadn't ordered. And I read most of them on the drive home. Mostly it was Batman-related stuff, the newest issue of Gotham Central and the first few parts of War Games. All good stuff.

I'm still tired.

Saturday, August 14, 2004

I'm glad to be home. For some reason riding in a car always makes me tired.

Tomorrow is my 21st birthday.

Thursday, August 12, 2004

I'm going to Lubbock tomorrow.

I'm excited.

Wednesday, August 11, 2004

My mom informed me that I've been neurotic for the last week or so, from what I'm guessing is anxiety from trying to get stuff ready to move. My birthday coincides with the time period, and I found out she'd getting me a bunch of stuff I thought I was going to have to buy with money I didn't really have, so that alleviated alot of it. She wanted it to be a surprise, but I'd rather know it's coming that freak out trying to figure out how to get it.

But anyways, here's comics for today (some of these I'm getting in Lubbock this weekend): Action Comics #818, which I'm liking (I think Chuck Austen's DC work is yards better than his Marvel work, with the exception of The Eternal, which was a great book, superhero orgies and all); Avengers/Thunderbolts #6 (of 6), of which I still need to read issue five, but is still really good; Bite Club #5 (of 6), which I wish I hadn't of picked up, because it's not that good (it's okay, but now I have to get the whole thing; Bloodhound #2, of which I'm hoping to find issue one in Lubbock; Captain America #30, while I scream that I'm not a Marvel person, they keep putting out really good books; Challengers of the Unknown #3 (of 6), of which I'm still waiting to gett issue two; Chosen #3 (of 3), the final issue of a really cool Mark Millar mini-series; District X #4, a highly under-rated detective books with mutants; Fables #28, which is always good; Gotham Central #22, which is final issue of a really cool storyline; Green Arrow #41, one of my favorite books right now; Identity Crisis #3 (of 7), to which I say "yay" and dance a little jig; Identity Disc #3 (of 5), to which I look at Marvel and wonder why they bothered to put this book out at all; Incredible Hulk #75; of which I still need to read issue 73 and 74 (so it'll probably wait); Invincible #14, giving me double Kirkman goodness; Iron Man #87, to which I scream once again that I am not a Marvel person and Tony Harris needs to stop drawing such beautiful, beautiful things; JLA #103, which continues to prove me Chuck Austen theory; JSA #64, which is always good; Legends of the Dark Knight #182, which ties into War Games, the first part of which my shop did not get in last week, and I'm hoping they do this week; Marvel Knights Spider-Man #5, with art from Frank Cho, so expect lots of boobies; Masters of the Universe #5, because He-Man was my first superhero as a kid; Powers #3, because Brian Michael Bendis is the shit; The Punisher #10, which I still might drop at issue twelve unless a really cool artist comes on board; Nightwing #96, which also ties into War Games; Soulfire #1, because I apparently have "I BUY EVERYTHING" tattooed on my forehead; Spectacular Spider-Man #18, I'm not sure why anymore; Spyboy: Final Exam #3 (of 4), because it's Peter David goodness; and Teen Titans #14, because it's always there (I have a theory that Teen Titans and Outsiders can never be good at the same time. Right now it's Outsiders that kicks alot of ass and Teen Titans that's been lackluster lately, but that seems to fluxuated every four months or so, so this book is due to be good here pretty soon).

I'm also getting some stuff that's been sitting in my box for a while, so it should be a hefty chuck of goodness I buy this afternoon.

Tuesday, August 10, 2004

My sleeping patterns are becoming more erratic. I fell asleep at about 7:00 PM yesterday and woke up at 10:00, only to stay up until about 3:00 AM before having to get up to go to work. I hope this straightens itself out before I move out so I don't drive other people crazy.

I'm still waiting for my cousin Coby to send me the specs on exactly what kind of computer he's building me. I know he knows what's cool, but the guy has no memory for getting in conact with people. Which is kind of scary, considering we're so much alike. I really don't need a new computer, but I want one. To play games. Namely City of Heroes, so that I can suddenly lose what semblance of a life I have and drop out of college. That would be a good life choice.

I got to see the apartment/dorm I'm moving into yesterday. Not the xact one, but one that looks just like it. There's room for my bookshelf, so my mass collection of books and DVDs can make the trip with me, which is good. My comic collection will have to stay at home, but that's not a thing. I can bring a couple of boxes to keep new stuff in and take them home when they get full. I have a whole system set up.

It's possible I'll get a cell phone today. I freakin' hate cell phones.

Monday, August 09, 2004

It's one of those periods were you're waiting for interesting things to happen. And all those things will come at one time and then you won't have time for anything else. I'm excited about going to Lubbock (so that, perhaps, I can fill in the holes of my Black Panther and The Flash runs). I'm excited about my 21st birthday, even though I don't ever drink and probably won't once I'm able to. I'm excited about going to San Antonio to pick up my new computer and see my cousin and her new child. I'm excited about the semester starting, because I'm retaking two classes that I actually did good in and the resulting grade was the professors' fault, not mine. But none of these exciting things are happening for another five days or so, so I have a week of waiting for them. When the next two weeks are over, I'll be back to doing this again, waiting for interesting things to happen, but knowing that they'll be coming soon.

I found out today that the school tacks the money you pay for student housing onto your regular tuition bill. That means that when my financial aid check comes in, it will all go to that. I had planned to pay for housing throughout the semester, and have some money left over for, you know, books and stuff. Stuff I'll need for school.

I'm going to try and type up the script for the second issue of The Chosen this week. It's written in a notebook, and when I type it that becomes the second draft. It seems to be a good system, because there's always stuff that I change. And this has been sitting for a few months, so I'll be able to look at it with a semi-fresh pair of eyes. I also need to come up with another title for the book, because there are current three books out there right now with a title similar to that. Something short. Decisive. Something like Boobies. Or not. Maybe Chris has an idea. He needs to.

That's all for now, I think.

Sunday, August 08, 2004

For some reason the posting page looks drastically different at my computer at home than it does at my computer at work. But I usually post at work, so that's very odd to me. About eight more days until I move out, which will be here the next time I turn around. Misty's party last night was fun. There was meat and everything.

Lubbock next weekend. School starts the next. Soon I feel that I won't have anymore free time. I probably will, though.

Thursday, August 05, 2004

Something occurred to me yesterday after an odd incident with a group of friends. What was I like when I was younger? I know I was a geek. I could never be cool going to elementary school with my Star Trek shirts (I had three: an Original Series cast, a Next Generation cast, and one with just Spock. Because Spock is the shit. Yeah, I got all the ladies). So I just embraced the geekdom. Comic books. Cool movies. It doesn't matter. It was who I was and still who I am. But was I annoying? Annoying like people who talk to loud and piss off a small group of people in a mere three hour time period. Annoying like trying to justify yourself to people who don't really care why you exist in the first place. I probably wasn't. I never drove a white truck with a toolbox and massively chipped paint.

Everybody should check out these comics that came out this week: Y: The Last Man #25 and Runaways #17 by Brian K. Vaughan, Ultimate Nightmare #1 (of 5) by Warren Ellis; and Ultimate Spider-Man #63 by Brian Michael Bendis. Good stuff. Yeah, I'm a geek.

Wednesday, August 04, 2004

I shaved my beard. I shouldn't have. Now I look like I'm thirteen. Which, I now remember, is why I don't shave in the first place. I won't post pictures. In two weeks it will be back and my face will be warm and it will all be forgotten.

Here's comics for this week: Amazing Fantasy #2, which I'm giving six issues because of Fiona Avery, who needs to wow me again; Batman: The 12-Cent Adventure, which kicks off War Games; Birds of Prey #71, continuing a bi-monthly storyline; Captain America and the Falcon #6, which is so much better without Bart Sears doing the art; Detective Comics #797, also part of War Games; Enginehead #4 (of 6), which I don't know why I like; Exiles #50, a big number for comics; Firestorm #4, which I'm giving a few more issues because they're supposed to tie into Identity Crisis; The Gray Area #2 (of 3), John Romita, Jr.'s creator-owned book; Hard Time #7, which is really good; Justice League Elite #2 (of 12), which kicks alot of ass; Majestic #1 (of 4), just because; The Monolith #7, with cool Tomm Coker art; Runaways #17, which is penultimate issue until at least January; Thor #83, which is turning me into a Thor fan; Ultimate Nightmare #1 (of 5), a Warren Ellis book; Ultimate Spider-Man #63, from Brian Michael Bendis; Ultimate X-Men #50, Uncanny X-Men #447, from Brian K. Vaughan; X-Men: The End Book One #1 (of 6), which I'm kind of excited about; and Y: The Last Man #25, which always kicks alot of ass.

That's about fifty dollars. Thirteen days until I move.
